Volunteers Prepare Tree Saplings to Fourth Graders for Earth Day

Earth Day Tree Bagging

Each year, volunteers from the Warren County Soil and Water Conservation District and Warren-Henderson Farm Bureau team up to provide local students with white pine tree saplings. Warren County SWCD Resource Conservationist Shawnee Sheehan says these saplings are provided by a Macomb forester to be handed out to local fourth-grade students.

“We meet up at the Farm Bureau office every year and bag trees for the fourth graders in our county. So it’s really exciting because we’re able to give every fourth grader one tree to take home with a little pamphlet of information about how to care for your tree, how to plant it, and why the trees are really important.”

Planting a tree is just one way many people choose to celebrate Earth Day each year. Other ways you can celebrate are by spending time outside, minimizing plastic use, and planting native plants.
