WHO Expresses Concern as Bird Flu Spreads Through Cattle in U.S.

Share

The World Health Organization warns that bird flu is spreading through cattle in the U.S.  CNN reports, the chief scientist at the WHO says it’s an “enormous concern” and while there is no evidence that the H5N1 flu virus can spread from person to person, there have been more mammals testing positive for the virus over the past two years which may mean the virus is moving closer to people.  The bird flu has mainly been a threat to fowl, but humans can catch it when they’re exposed to infected animals.  Dr Jeremy Farrar of the WHO says, the U.S. needs to be prepared with vaccines and treatments if H5N1 finds a way to spread from human to human.
