Eugene “Gene” O. Raes, 82, of Monmouth, IL passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, IL.

Gene was born July 30, 1941 in Orion, Il the son of Oscar O. and Margurite (Vanholderback) Raes. He was raised and educated in Little York, IL, graduating from Little York High School in 1960.

Gene married Patricia McGeehon in 1961.  He later Judy McVey on August 2, 1983 in Monmouth and she survives.

Following his graduation from high school Gene helped his father farm near Little York. He later was truck driver for Munson Trucking for several years before working at Agar/Wilson Foods in Monmouth for 16 years.  He returned to Munson Trucking, driving for 9 years before retiring in 1995.

Gene was an outdoorsman.  He loved hunting, fishing, going on the river and gardening. He enjoyed the many activities with his family, children and grandchildren. Gene was also very active at the Strom Center.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Raes of Monmouth; his children, Laura Main of TX, Paula Bruns of TX, Roger (Jackie) Raes of FL, Connie Edwards of OH, Patrick (Marsha) Yerkey of OK and Scotty (Nicole) Goodell of Oquawka, IL; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his brother, Albert (Julie) Raes of Hopedale, IL; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Jeremy Patterson and 3 brothers, Ed Raes, Wally Raes and Charlie Raes.

Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m., Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Warren County Memorial Park. Monmouth, IL.  Cremation has been accorded. No visitation is planned at this time.  Memorials may be given to the Strom Center in Monmouth. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
