Mr. Ronald “Ronnie” W. Carlson, 83, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away unexpectedly Sunday, June 16, 2024, at his home.

Ronnie was born May 29, 1941, in Galesburg, the son of Walter M. and Mildred L. (Lawrence) Carlson. He married Juanita Waight-Johnson on August 1, 1981, in Galesburg.

His wife of 42 years, Juanita, survives. Also, surviving are her children, Bobby Johnson, Jr., Debi (Jim Bauchman) Johnson, CJ (Gussie Padilla) Johnson all of Galesburg and Terri (Richard) Conard of Alexis, Illinois; and eight grandchildren, Tifani (Jason) Miller, Kristopher (Heather Bundy) Conard, Melody (Kent Young) Runyon, Heidi Clark, Jessica (Donnie) Reed, Sean Johnson and Kylee Johnson, twelve great grandchildren, DJ, Dante, Harley, Reed, Lillian, Dylan, Jaden, Morganne, Keino, Kahlia, Hazel and Amelia and his beloved fur baby, Jessie. He is preceded in death by his parents, his stepdaughter, Penny Sue Johnson, two brothers, Aaron and Jerry Carlson, and two grandchildren, Tamara Runyon and Kenneth Jordan Johnson.

Ronnie graduated from ROVA High School in 1959. He later enlisted in the U.S. Army. Ronnie worked for the Admiral/Maytag Corporation for 40 years, retiring in 2000. Ronnie was a member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285 and was a lifetime member of the International Machinists Local #2063.

Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 am Monday, June 24, 2024, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. A Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 am Monday, at the chapel with Ron and Juanita’s friend, Rick Welty officiating. The burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Knox County Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to Knox County Humane Society.
