On 7/15/24 at about 12:16 PM, Macomb Police responded to the area of Albert St. and Piper St., in Macomb, for a report of shots fired. Officers arrived on scene, determined there were no injuries, that the suspects had fled the scene, and began collecting evidence. Officers searched the neighborhood for the suspect vehicle. MPD officers and detectives developed a lead on the suspects, located evidence at the scene, and ultimately found the vehicle. MPD developed information that the suspects were in a residence and likely still armed.
Officers surrounded the residence, located on Derry Ln. in Macomb, while detectives secured a search warrant. Once the warrant was acquired, MPD officers, assisted by deputies from the McDonough County Sheriff’s Department and troopers from the Illinois State Police (ISP), were able to call out the suspects one at a time. The suspects were secured without incident. The search warrant was served and evidence located to support charges.
Macomb Police Chief Jeff Hamer advises the investigation is ongoing and more charges may be brought forward. We are investigating whether these weapons are linked to other crimes.
Charged were:
Deandre Smith Jr., age 22, of Hazel Crest, was charged with Reckless Discharge of a Firearm
(720 ILCS 5/24-1.5) and 2 counts of Illegal Possession of Weapon by a Felon (720 ILCS 5/24-
1.1).
Christian D. Walker, age 24, of Macomb, was charged with 2 counts of Illegal Possession of
Weapon by a Felon (720 ILCS 5/24-1.1). Walker also had a McDonough County Warrant for
Indirect Criminal Contempt at the time of his arrest.
Kirk G. Waters, age 24, of Macomb, was charged with Reckless Discharge of a Firearm (720
ILCS 5/24-1.5) and 2 counts of Illegal Possession of Weapon by a Felon (720 ILCS 5/24-1.1).
Waters also had warrants from Cook and McDonough Counties for weapons and drug offenses.
All people are presumed innocent, until proven guilty in a court of law.
