Football’s Cody Szelc Named Midwest College Special Teams Performer of the Week

Monmouth College senior punter/placekicker Cody Szelc (Riverview, Florida) was named Midwest Conference Special Teams Performer of the Week on Monday.

Szelc had a monster game on Saturday as the Scots won at Chicago 34-21. As a kicker, Szelc drilled field goals of 30 and 21 yards and also went a perfect 4-for-4 on extra points. He accounted for eight points in the game and moved into 11th on Monmouth’s career scoring list with 188 points.

As a punted, Szlec hit two punts over 50 yards, pinning Chicago inside the 20 on both efforts. He hit a 51-yarder and a career-best 52-yarder while averaging 47.2 yards on four punts. Szlec had two inside the 20 punts as Chicago started drives on their own 17 and own 8. Szlec also made two tackles in the game.

The Scots (1-1, 1-0) will play Lawrence at home on Saturday as part of Family Weekend with a 1 p.m. kickoff.
