The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that overnight closures of Interstate 474 at Airport Road (exit 5) in Peoria will take place Sept. 3-4.
The closures are necessary to remove old beams from the Airport Road overpass and will occur as follows:
- Sept. 3, beginning at 10 p.m.: Eastbound I-474 will be fully closed until 5:30 a.m. Sept. 4.
- Sept. 4, beginning at 10 p.m.: Westbound I-474 will be fully closed until 5:30 a.m. Sept. 5. The Airport Road entrance ramp to westbound I-474 will also be closed; the exit ramp will remain open.
- A detour has been posted.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
