George E. Jackson, Sr.

Mr. George E. Jackson, Sr., 90, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away at 8:00 am Friday, October 25, 2024, at Marigold Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

George was born April 25, 1934, in Beverly, Illinois, the son of Leon and Zelma (Kendrick) Jackson. He married Betty Vaughn on December 16, 1954, in Hannibal, Missouri. After 48 years of marriage, she preceded him in death on July 30, 2002.

George is survived by his three sons, James Jackson, George E. Jackson, Jr., and David Jackson all of Galesburg; his four daughters, Joyce Wheeler, Sharon (Michael) Johnson, Betty (Doug) Beaty and Rose Mary (Mark) Riley all of Galesburg; three brothers, Richard (Linda) Jackson of East Galesburg, Kenny (Sue) Jackson of Galesburg and Terry (Lorma) Jackson of Rio, Illinois; two sisters, Doris Swise of Canton, Illinois and Maybelle Ostrander of Petersburg, Illinois; eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and thirty-three great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty, one son, Richard; three sisters, Betty Chase, Janet Johnson and Patrica Bishop; three brothers Johnny, Gene and Bobby Joe Jackson and a great granddaughter, Sondrea Marshall.

George graduated from Beverly High School in 1952. He was known as a hardworking man, working for Galesburg Malleable for over 15 years and had also worked for Butler Manufacturing for 25 years before their closure. George loved the great outdoors, he especially enjoyed deer hunting and was an avid fisherman.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Thursday, October 31, 2024, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel with Chaplain Jordan Knight officiating. The burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to his family. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com
