Former President Jimmy Carter has passed away

On April 8, 2014, President Carter attended the Civil Rights Summit at the LBJ Presidential Library.

Former President Jimmy Carter has passed away at the age of 100. He is the longest-lived former President in our nation’s history. The former peanut farmer and Georgia governor became the 39th President of the United States from 1977 to 1981 after beating Republican Incumbent President Gerald Ford in the 1976 election.

Former Presidents Obama and Clinton are honoring Jimmy Carter. Obama said, “President Carter taught all of us what it means to live a life of grace, dignity, justice, and service.” Clinton said, “Guided by his faith, President Carter lived to serve others – until the very end.”

Former President Carter’s state funeral will be held January 9th. The services will take place at the Washington National Cathedral. Carter is expected to lie in state in the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol. President Biden has also declared January 9th a National Day of Mourning
