Story by Kadin Rogers
The Monmouth-Roseville Titans boys basketball team, after a week long break from action got back on the floor on Friday night at Rockridge High School, taking on a quality Rockets ball club in Three Rivers Conference West Division play. In a solid showing for Rockridge they would come away with the 66-46 win, dropping the Titans to 10-10 on the season. After being step for step with each other in the first few minutes of the game, the Rockets used a 12-2 run at the end of the first quarter to take a 20-8 lead after one. This would be a theme of the night, as Rockridge was able to find most of their points in extended scoring runs.
After Rockridge was able to run their lead up to as much as 21 points in the second quarter, a strong finish to the half brought the Titans within 15 at the break down 36-21. Rockets senior Landon Bull’s 23 points lead all scorers in the half while Cee Sarcomo’s seven point second quarter was the leading output for Monmouth-Roseville. The Titans continued their battle into the third quarter, bringing the Rockets lead down to 36-25 At one point in the quarter, Ethan Clark’s 8 points in the quarter were a big help in that regard. However a couple threes from Rockridge’s Caleb Cunico helped keep the Rockets up by 14 going into the final quarter of play. In the fourth, Payton Thompson’s 8 points would lead the Titans in the quarter but it would still be the Rockets salting away a 66-46 home win over Monmouth-Roseville.
In the stat book for Monmouth-Roseville, Ethan Clark and Payton Thompson had 13 a piece to lead the Titans in scoring while Cee Sarcomo added in 7. The now 10-10 Titans will get an immediate chance to shake the loss off in another tough rivalry game on the road Saturday evening against the Macomb Bombers.
