Mr. W. “Rodney” Lindsey, 82, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away at 5:57 am Friday, January 24, 2025, at the OSF Richard L. Owen Hospice Home in Peoria after a battle with Lewy Body Dementia.
Rodney was born June 29, 1942, in Galesburg, the son of Wayne Louis and Lois Marie (Olson) Lindsey. He was raised in Rio, Illinois graduating from ROVA High School and later attended the University of Illinois for agriculture.
He married Margaret Ann Markland and from that union he had three children, David (Charlotte) Lindsey, Nicholas (Jessica) Lindsey and Dawn Pelton, all of Oneida. He later married Delores Ann Power-Reynolds on November 9, 1997. She survives and her children, Jamie (Amy) Powers of Ottawa, Illinois, Melissa (Glen) Ashmun of Seattle and Terry Reynolds of Pennsylvania.
Also, surviving is his sister, Cheryl Tessman of Iowa, fourteen grandchildren and his fur babies, Scruffy and Mimi. He is preceded in death by his parents, his son-in-law, Dan Pelton and a sister, Janice Durchholz.
Rodney was a farmer, raising hogs and operating his own trucking business. After retirement he became an avid baker and took great pride in his cakes. In his younger years, he had won awards at the state fair cook-offs. He also enjoyed tending to his flower and vegetable gardens, he called it his “intown farming”. He was a member of the Pork Producers, the Cattleman Association and the Corn Growers Association, holding several official positions. Rodney was a true farm hand and shared his love for farming serving as a 4-H leader. Rodney was a member of the Covenant Church; he taught Sunday School for second and third graders and served on several boards within the church.
Rodney’s wishes were to be cremated. Visitation will be 9:00-11:00 am Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the Covenant Church followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 am at the church with Rev. Travis Randolph officiating. Memorials may be made to OSF Richard L. Owen Hospice House or Charity of the Donor’s Choice.
