Josephine M. “Josie” Buckley, 92, of Monmouth, IL passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Monmouth Nursing Home, Monmouth.

Josie was born on April 12, 1932, in Macomb, IL the daughter of Anthony and Teresa (Hagan) McCleary. She was raised on the family farm near Raritan, attending Barry Elementary School and later graduating from Media Weaver Academy, Media, IL

Josie married Robert W. Buckley at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Monmouth, on September 14, 1957, and he passed away on September 8, 1994.

Upon moving to Monmouth, Josie worked as a Secretary at the Monmouth Fruit Company, Bowman Shoe Company, Warren County YMCA and later she was the office manager first at Spoon River Mental Health and later Bridgeway, Inc. before retiring in 2010 after 28 years.

Josie was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Alter and Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Monmouth American Legion Post #136 Auxiliary and the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. She loved spending time outdoors and with family and friends. She enjoyed watching movies, NASCAR, The Bachelor, Days of Lives, and Dancing with the Stars. She also liked using the computer and shopping online.

She is survived by her children, Teresa (Dan) Boock of Seaton, IL, Rose Buckley of Monmouth and Tony (Molly) Buckley of Kirkwood, IL; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Kevin) McQuillan of Evan, GA, Jessica (Derrick) Collier of Phoenix, AZ, Bryan (Jessica) Boock of Little York, IL, Alena Buckley of Alton, IL and Rachel Buckley of Kirkwood; great-grandchildren, Daniel, Josie, Chet, Olivia, Isaiah, Kolby, Cooper and Kade; special cousin, Richard Woods of Dallas, TX; several nieces and nephew.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Rose McCleary and Margaret Lee; two brothers, Patrick McCleary and her twin brother, Joseph McCleary; and one infant grandson.

Josie’s family would like to thank the staff at the Monmouth Nursing Home for the care given to their mom during her time at the facility.  They would also like to give sincere thanks and gratitude to Candi with OSF Hospice for her relentless care, compassion, and support.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Monmouth. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Monmouth. Visitation will be from 9:30 –10:30 a.m. at the church with a Rosary Service beginning at 10:30 a.m. Memorials may be given to Immaculate Conception Church, Monmouth Nursing Home, or OSF Hospice and sent to the funeral home.
