Warmer weather can only mean that spring is just around the corner. The University of Illinois Extension and the McDonough County Master Gardeners will kick off the spring season on March 22 with the 27th Annual Gardeners Day. Wendy Ferguson with the University of Illinois Extension shares it’s a great event for anyone interested in gardening and wants to learn the latest information related to their gardens.

“We will have 12 different classes- and of those 12, you can pick four different sessions. You come, do two sessions, then we have lunch, and two more sessions after lunch. There will be vendors, fellow garden enthusiasts- it’s just a great way to get in the mood for spring and to learn a little something,” says Ferguson. “We have classes anywhere from learning how to take care of trees, how to do hardscapes in your gardens, a new program called conservation at home, what’s the latest plants that are going to be out there. There is a wide variety of classes we are offering.”

Gardeners Day 2025 will take place at the Spoon River College Outreach Center on March 22 kicking off at 8:30 am. For information on how to register, visit the Extension website.
