Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending Feb. 2, 2025:
The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior competitive cheerleader, Makayla St. George. Makayla’s leadership helped the Titan squad to its highest score of the season on Saturday at the sectional meet at Farmington High School. She is the lone senior on a team that placed 7th out of 17 teams. The Titans were just 1.67 points from qualifying for the state finals.
The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is senior boys basketball player, Zeke Clark. Zeke took control on the offensive end of the floor in wins over Ridgewood and Wethersfield. He scored 15 and 12 points, respectively, in the victories. All of Zeke’s points came from behind the 3-point arc, drilling a total of 9 three’s.
The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is sophomore boys basketball player, Cooper Gibb. Cooper’s shooting touch is getting hot as the season winds down. He scored 19 points and grabbed three rebounds in a win over ROWVA/Williamsfield. In two games last week, Cooper went 5-for-7 from beyond the 3-point arc.
The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is sophomore girls wrestler, Kinsley Furnald. Kinsley qualified for the IHSA sectional meet by placing 3rd in the 100 pound weight class at the Jacksonville regional tournament. She went (2-1) for the day. Both of Kinsley’s wins were by pinfall.
The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is senior girls basketball player, Emma Gunther. Emma played a great all-around game in two Tornado wins last week. She averaged 8.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4 assists and 1.5 steals in the victories. Emma also shot well from the free throw line, going 4-for-6.
