Ms. Imogene W. Allen, 90, of Galesburg, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, surrounded by her family.

She was born on February 7, 1935, in Galesburg, daughter of Randolph B. Sr. and Ruth (Shelton) Wheeler.

She is survived by her two sons, LaRoque R. (and Sherry) Allen of Galesburg and William (and Kathleen Tallent) Allen of San Antonio, Texas.  She was a loving grandmother leaving behind three grandchildren: Destiny Allen of Galesburg, Danielle (and Jasmine) Allen of Grand Prairie, Texas and Darian (and Tiffany) Allen of Mountain Home, Idaho; as well as two great grandchildren, Connor Allen and Isaac Allen of Mountain Home, Idaho.  She was preceded in death by both parents, two brothers, Randolph Wheeler Jr. and William Wheeler, and one sister, Wanda W. Davis.

Imogene graduated from Galesburg High School in 1953, going on to study at Brown’s Business College for a few months. She then began working as a Secretary at the Galesburg Research Hospital for 23 years and later working as an Executive Secretary for the President of Knox College for 25 years, retiring in 2002. During her free time from work, Imogene enjoyed serving her community by participating on The Spoon River Mental Health Board, the Board of Directors of Galesburg Mental Health Center Credit Union, and the Board of Directors of the Knox College Credit Union. She also served on the Knox County Sheriff’s Merit Commission from 1977 to 1999, as well as a member of the president’s Minority Council for Knox College in 1988, and was a member of the 2nd Baptist Church in Galesburg. The community will miss Imogene and the passion she brought to the community

As Imogene requested, Cremation will be accorded.  A Celebration of Life will be at a later date.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences may be shared at www.h-p-w.com
