Galesburg Mayor Schwartzman re-elected

Incumbent Galesburg Mayor Peter Schwartzman defeated challenger and a former mayor of Galesburg John Pritchard in Tuesday’s consolidated election. In a close race, Schwartzman received over 53 percent of the vote to retain his position for another four years. Nearly 5,300 votes were cast in the mayor’s race.
In the Galesburg city council races, Wendel Hunigan defeated incumbent Wayne Dennis with 60 percent of the vote for a seat in Ward 2. In Ward 4; with nearly 61 percent of the vote, Incumbent Dwight White defeated challenger Corine Andersen; and first-time candidate Greg Saul won a seat to represent the 6th Ward in defeating candidates Tianna Cervantez and Demarkius Medley Sr. Current alderperson Sarah Carrington did not seek re-election.
Incumbent Kimberly Thierry was re-elected as City of Galesburg Township Supervisor, defeating challenger Jennifer Frederick with 58 percent of the vote, and City Clerk Kelli Bennewitz and Township Assessor Laura Williams ran unopposed.
