As the weather is warming up, motorists will be sharing the roadways with more people out walking, biking, and those on motorcycles. Warren County Sheriff Martin Edwards reminds motorists of traffic safety in Illinois:
“Scott’s Law is extremely important. Let’s say you are on a two-lane highway, and you see a maintenance vehicle with yellow lights on, a police car, a fire engine, anything that has those emergency warning lights on, it is the law, you must slow down and give them a wide berth. If you are on a four-lane highway and you encounter this, it is incumbent upon you to change lanes and slow down; put the phones down and pay attention to what is going on. Along those lines, a stopped school bus with the red lights on, again state law you cannot pass that school bus.”
When it comes to construction zones, Sheriff Edwards stressed the importance of slowing down and driving the speed limit that is posted in those work zones, even if no one is currently working because the signs are still posted and still applies.
