Miss Dorothy Jean Powell, 93, formerly of Roseville, Illinois, died at 12:00 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2025, at her home in Monmouth, Illinois. 

She was born on April 2, 1932, in Rural Galesburg, Illinois to George K. and Florence E. (Hackamack) Powell. 

Surviving is a niece, a nephew, and her close friends and caretakers, Barb Piper and Shyvel Piper of Monmouth.  She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and three brothers. 

Dorothy attended a rural, one room schoolhouse in her early school years.  She graduated from R.O.V.A. High School in 1950.  She was a caretaker and homemaker on her family farm helping take care of her parents and siblings.  She lived in Roseville for the past 40 years until recently moving to Monmouth.  Dorothy loved taking care of the dairy farm and all of the animals.  She had two cats that were very close to her heart, Freddy and Buttercup. 

Graveside service will be at 12:00 Noon Friday, May 16, 2025, at East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg.  Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences may be shared at www.h-p-w.com
