Gary W. Avery, 81, of Monmouth, IL, passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Goldwater Nursing Home in Roseville, IL.

Gary was born on January 11, 1944, in Kirkwood, IL, the son of John and Merle (Wolford) Avery. He was raised and educated in Kirkwood, graduating in Yorkwood High School in 1963.

On December 9, 1967, Gary married Dixie Toops in Little York, and she passed away on June 10, 2019.

Gary worked as an accountant for Gale Manufacturing and Axline Pharmacy. He enjoyed spending time with his family, spending time outdoors, and working in the garden. He could often be found fishing or playing cards.

Surviving Gary are his children; Trent (Jaimie) Avery of Monmouth, IL, Donna (Ken) Polheber of Burlington, WI, Taelor (Jim) Elliott of Cedar Rapids, IA, Tung Holt, Thai Nguyen of Peoria, IL, and MyLe Nguyen of Boston, MA.; grandchildren, Tucker Avery, Tage Avery, Chase Taylor, Sydney Hunter, Whitney Hunter, and Easton Elliott; great-grandchildren, Hayden Taylor, Melania Taylor; siblings, Jesse Avery, Dorthy Lipes, Tom Avery, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.   

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and siblings, Walt Avery, Wilber Avery, Betty McMeen, Margie Cameron, Rex Avery, and Gerald Avery.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Funeral Services will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home, Monmouth, IL. Interment will be in Little York Cemetery, Little York, IL.
