Bret LeRoy Flake, age 62, of Stronghurst, Illinois, passed away Sunday, August 3, 2025 at his home.  He was born March 15, 1963, in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of LeRoy James and Connie Sue Hillyer Flake.  On October 9, 1994, he married Susan Spiker in Alabama.  

Bret was employed at McDonalds Restaurant in Alabama, and at Perkins Restaurant in Burlington, Iowa for a time.  He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, and of NASCAR racing, especially Jeff Gordon, and later Chase Elliott.  

Survivors include his wife, Susan Flake of Roseville, IL, his mother, Connie Sue Flake of Iowa City, IA, one brother, Adam (Krista) Flake of Iowa City, IA, one sister, Kimberly Sue (Michael) VanDorn of Miles, IA, and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father, LeRoy James Flake, and one brother, Timothy James Flake.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until Noon on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst.  Cremation rites have been accorded.  Interment of ashes will be in River Junction Cemetery, near Lone Tree, Iowa.
