As farmers start to head to the field to harvest the 2025 crop, Rich DeSchepper. West Central FS Agronomy Sales and Marketing Manager shares that disease is a major concern, even on fields with fungicide applications.
“Even though the fungicide application is working compared to the untreated acre, there’s still an effect of the diseases on the plant,” shares DeSchepper. “Southern rust is still exploding. I was in a couple of fields in Knox County, and the severe tar spot was about as bad as I’ve ever seen it. Northern corn leaf blight and gray leaf spot are also very evident in much of our area.”
Despite local disease concerns, Deschepper adds that the Midwest Crop Tour has predicted Warren County yields to be among the highest in the state.
DeSchepper spoke at Day 1 of the WRAM FS Ag Roundtables on September 4th.
