Abingdon-Avon football hosted the South Fulton co-op last Friday for a Lincoln Land Small School Conference matchup. The Tornadoes entered the game with a 1-4 record, needing to start a four-game win streak to keep their playoff hopes alive.

The game was a back-and-forth battle in the first half, with the two teams heading into halftime tied at 21 apiece. Abingdon-Avon finally created some separation in the third quarter, pushing across two scores to take a 34-27 lead into the fourth. The Tornadoes’ defense held strong the rest of the way, shutting out the Rebels in the final quarter to secure a 34-27 win.

With the victory, Abingdon-Avon improves to 2-4 and will need to win its final three games to qualify for the playoffs. The Tornadoes will look to build on this momentum with another home game this Friday against the Havana Ducks, who enter at 3-3. Head Coach Rick Quinn shares his team’s mentality heading into the final stretch of the season:

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday night in Abingdon.
