Abingdon-Avon Tornado Football Will Bring Back a Plethora of Experience in 2026

Story by Parker Cassidy

The Abingdon-Avon Tornadoes football squad wrapped up their 2025 season last Friday with a senior night matchup against rival ROWVA/Williamsfield. The Tornadoes fell in their final game 38-16 at the hands of the Cougars.

A game of inches was the story for A-Town this season, as three of their six losses came by a combined total of just four points. In addition, in each of those six defeats, it was a one-score game at the half. The Tornadoes didn’t get much help from their schedule either, facing five playoff teams in their nine-game regular season slate.

Head Coach Rick Quinn says he was disappointed he couldn’t do more for his six seniors, but the future is looking bright in Abingdon.

Should a IHSA football proposal put forth by Roxana High School pass, we could see some drastic changes to the schedule for our local teams next season.
