David Zynor Vance, 92, of Rock Island, died at 11:10 p.m. Monday, October 6, 2025, in Mercy One Genesis Medical Center, Silvis, Illinois.

He was born December 5, 1932, in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of Lawrence E. and Nellie M. (Adcock) Vance. He first married Patricia Marie Bower in 1956 and together they had a son, Michael David. He then married Joan Elizabeth VanWinkle in 1958 and they had a daughter, Vivian Faith. Later in 1964, he married Linda Kay Tille and their daughter, Nicole Simone was born in 1965.

He is survived by his children, Michael David Vance Sprinkle of Galesburg, Illinois, Vivian Faith (Steven) Haahn of Farmington, Illinois, and Nicole Simone “CoCo” (Tony) DeVries of El Cajon, California; 10 grandchildren, Mandy, Adam, Matthew, Savannah, Ariel, Jay, Patience, Cody, Cierra, and Mikayla; 11 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Kenneth Vance, Caroline Humphrey, Norma Lucas, and Alice Osgood.

As a fiberglass artist, David began his working career co-owning and operating Lance and Vance Autobody with Stan Lance. He later opened his own body shop, Mr. Corvette. He then began an over 35-year career working for Midwest Concrete Pumping in Rock Island, Illinois, through the Operating Engineers Local 150. He was recognized as “Operating Engineer of the Year” twice during his career.

Motors and engines were a large part of David’s life. He enjoyed racing cars, especially his 64 hardtop Corvette. He won several trophies at the Cordova Raceway over the years. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles, boating, snowmobiling, skeet shooting, playing volleyball, and water skiing. He was also a member of the Midwest Corvette Club and a snow skiing club he enjoyed international travel with.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, October 9, 2025, in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg, Illinois. Pastor Doug Rowland of the Rock Island Bible Church will officiate. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rock Island County Animal Control or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
