Gary Guy Wunnenberg, 77, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 3:36 a.m., Thursday, October 9, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born August 8, 1948, in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Wayne and Norma (Woods) Wunnenberg. He was raised and educated in the Burlington and Biggsville areas.

Gary enlisted in 1966 and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

He married Becky Hatter on November 4, 1997, in Monmouth and she survives.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Becky of Monmouth; one son, Chris (Megan) Wunnenberg of Sandwich, Illinois; one sister, Betty Jo Dakin of Roseville; nephews, Jason (Jackie) Overstreet of Highland Park, Illinois and Justin (Heather) Overstreet of Roseville; great-nieces and nephews, Sydney, Brady (Macyn), Madison, Blake and Boston.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one niece, Ginger, daughter of Betty Overstreet-Dakin; brother-in-law, Lisle Dakin and many friends.

Gary enjoyed bartering on Ebay for almost 30 years. He, Becky and Chris also loved raising chickens on their farm. He liked collecting antiques and attending flea markets and spending time with his numerous friends at auctions. He enjoyed gardening, the outdoors and going to the casino to try his luck. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and attending all of his son’s sporting events through the years.

Cremation rites have been accorded with a Celebration of Gary’s life to be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and left in the care of the funeral home. Moore Memorial Home, Roseville, is handling the arrangements.
