As winter sets in across the area, Warren County Sheriff Martin Edwards is reminding drivers to plan ahead and use caution if they need to travel.

“I am gonna remind you, check your local weather. Plan ahead if you have to travel and please slow down. Thirty five miles an hour is plenty fast enough, that is how fast I drove a couple days ago. But also be prepared for being stopped or off in the ditch. So take your survival gear, your coats, a charged phone. If you do not have to travel, do not, but if you are, please drive defensively and take your time to arrive safely.”

Here are some additional tips for winter travel. Make sure your vehicle has a full tank of gas, check your tires and windshield wipers before you leave, give yourself extra time to reach your destination, and always keep blankets, water, and a phone charger in your car.
