Since the opening of the Wound Care Center at OSF HealthCare Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth four years ago, their first two full years seeing patients, the clinic was recognized with the Robert A. Warriner Award for Clinical Excellence and the Center of Distinction Award by Healogics. Director Audra Baker informs the clinic treats a variety of wounds using advanced treatment options:
“The typical patients that we see, we will say they are chronic wounds if they have had it for 30 days or more, if you are concerned, come see us. We are not going to turn a wound away. We do see a lot of patients that are diabetic, they have arterial or venous issues, surgical wounds that don’t close, burns, abscesses, and sometimes dermatological conditions,” says Baker.
“We have advanced therapy, such as total contact casting, which is the gold standard for diabetic foot ulcers. We no negative pressure wound therapy, some people know it as a wound vac. We do offloading, compression, and we can also work patients up for hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Not a service we provide at Holy Family, but we wanted to provide all advanced options for those patients, so we will work them up and get them where they need to go to receive that. Then we also do lymphedema, which is new for us,” Baker adds.
OSF Wound Care is open Mondays through Thursday on the OSF Holy Family Medical Center campus in Monmouth. Appointments can be made by calling 309-734-1408.
