Carl T. Damewood, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and Marine veteran, passed away on December 25, 2025, at the age of 91, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease at his home in Lebanon, OH.

Born on October 10, 1934, in Kirkwood, IL, the oldest of 6 children born to Roy and Hazel (Ketchum) Damewood. Carl graduated from Biggsville High School in 1952.

Carl honorably served his country with the United State Marine Corp During the Korean War from 1954-1956.

Carl married Mary F. Ray in Monmouth, IL on June 24, 1962 and she survives.

After his service, Carl built a fulfilling career in the telephone industry, retiring after 32 years from GTE/Verizon, where his commitment and hard work were respected.

In retirement, Carl enjoyed bowling, golfing and traveling.

Carl’s greatest joy was his family. He shared 62 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Mary. Together, they created a loving home and raised two devoted daughters: Pam (Kevin) Davis and Becky (Kirk) Appell. Carl was a treasured Poppy to his granddaughters Sydnie, Kamryn, and Katie Appell, who brought immense happiness to his life. He is also survived by his brother, George (Cheryl) Damewood and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Bob, John, Harold and Sarah.

Carl’s legacy of love, service, and resilience will continue to inspire his family and friends. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Friday January 9, 2026, at McGuire Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL. Interment will be at Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth. Visitation hours will be 9:30-11:00 am, Friday morning at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Parkinson’s Foundation and sent to the funeral home.
