United Girls Close Season with Momentum, Look Ahead to 2026

The United Red Storm girls basketball team has officially wrapped up its season after a regional semifinal loss to Illini Bluffs, who are tied for fifth in the Class 1A AP Poll.

The uber young Red Storm squad finished the year 9-20. The record is not the most eye popping thing ever, but the roster consisted of just one junior and one senior, meaning United relied on serious production from underclassmen all season long.

The Red Storm continued to show improvement late into the year, even winning five of their last eight games. That stretch included a big regional quarterfinal win over North Fulton on Saturday, a team United lost to by five earlier in January. Head Coach Chris Olson says those are the types of wins that carry over into next season.

United will return all but one player next year as they look to build off that late season momentum. The leadership of lone senior Sara Shimmin will be missed, but the expectation is that several of this year’s underclassmen will step into bigger roles next season.
