The push to allow for the sale of E15 nationwide year-round was once again blocked by lawmakers. Big River Resources CEO David Zimmerman explains the importance of E15 in the overall economy and for the average consumer:
“If you look at corn prices right now, this is the crutch of it from Big River’s standpoint and our shareholders standpoint, many of whom are our producers; we have the export market that has really kept us afloat here in the last two or three years. Our domestic usage of ethanol has been really flat, I mean extremely flat, in the situation where the price of corn is below the cost of production. We know we need a demand input here, not only to help ethanol, but to help the corn farmer as well,” says Zimmerman.
“Right now, the supply of corn that we expect is going to massively outstrip the demand centers that we have in place today. We need to be proactive on the E15 side, just simply for the ag economy,” Zimmerman adds.
Supporters in the push for expanding access of E15 say it would help shield consumers from global energy price volatility.
