Margueritte Ina Lee “Grandma Peg” (Boyer) Thomas, 91, of Abingdon, Illinois, passed away at 6:06 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Knox County Nursing Home, in Knoxville, Illinois.

She was born on February 4, 1935, at her family home near Abingdon in Indian Point Township, the daughter of Vernon and Hilma (Roberts) Boyer. She married Marion P. “Pete” Thomas on January 5, 1952; he preceded her in death on July 30, 1994.

Peg was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her four sons, Rick (Jacki) Thomas, Randy (Wendy) Thomas, Rod (Tina) Thomas, and Todd (Jane) Thomas, all of Abingdon; one brother, Danny Boyer of Rapatee, Illinois; two sisters-in-law, Sue Davis and Marge Thomas; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was the sixth of ten children.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Joyce Hensley, Wanita Way, Holly Powell, Jackie Timberlake, and Marna Johnson; three brothers, James, Donnie, and Larry Boyer.

Peg was raised and educated in Abingdon. She dedicated many years to caring for her family as a homemaker before working at Admirals. She later co-owned the C & I Sandwich Shop before returning home, where she took great joy in caring for and spoiling her grandchildren.

She was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and loved attending baseball games with family and friends. Peg faithfully supported her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in their school and sporting events. She was well known for her delicious homemade baked goods, especially her muffin donuts and pies, and she cherished sharing her recipes and teaching her grandchildren her love of cooking and baking. She also enjoyed playing card games with family and friends and spending time feeding her birds.

Peg will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the entire community.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services, Abingdon Chapel.
