Monmouth-Roseville High School hosted a satellite of the IHSA music solo and ensemble contest all day on Saturday. The Monmouth-Roseville vocal department won their 14th straight class B state title, beating Oregon by 39 points. Chorus Director Kevin Ferry has overseen all 14 state titles.
The Monmoth-Roseville Band won their 1st state championship, tying with Oregon for 1st place. The Titans scored the most points in the event in their program history, with 720. Overall on the day, individually, Monmouth-Roseville had 118 Superior Ratings, 49 Excellent Ratings and 13 Best of the Day Awards.
Monmouth-Roseville Band Directors, Art Martinez and Hannah Murray said the championships are great, but it’s the individual performances that they are proud of.
Monmouth-Roseville will take a 37 point lead over Oregon High School into the Organizational Contest on April 18th at Kewanee High School. That will determine the Overall Champion. Monmouth-Roseville has won 4 of the last 6 class B overall music state titles.
In class C on Saturday, United takes 3rd overall on the day. The Red Storm took 2nd in the band competition and 8th in the vocal category.
