At the start of this school year, Monmouth-Roseville implemented a no cell phone policy in the high school. Principal Eric Matthews informs students have responded well to the policy and has led administration to discuss reducing time on Chromebooks in the classroom:
“In some of the classrooms I have been in this year as we have done some of our evaluations, they are putting Chromebooks away and not using them on days. They are there if they need to use them, but some of our teachers have already taken it upon themselves and noticed that. We do our benchmark testing throughout the year; those are all through our Chromebooks. The ACT, that is going to be on the Chromebooks, so there are times that we are still going to need them. We still use them for Google Classroom if we happen to have an e-learning day. We are not looking to get rid of them permanently by any means because I think it is something if used correctly it is a big benefit.”
Meanwhile, Principal Matthews reports 35 students are enrolled in dual credit classes at Sandburg and Monmouth College and 37 students are taking career and technical education courses with the Galesburg Area Vocational Center.
