It is summertime, which means Galesburg Post 285 Legion baseball is back.
Post 285 has gotten off to a solid start this season, sitting at 4-3 through seven games. Galesburg is coming off a trip to Omaha, Nebraska, where they competed in the Battle of Omaha, the annual tournament played during the College World Series.
Galesburg went 3-0 in pool play before falling to Omaha Electric to end their tournament on Wednesday.
First-year Head Coach Andrew Thomas says the bats have been hot to start the year.
“Had a nice trip. Bats were alive the whole time. That’s kind of been the story of the season. We’ve been hitting it well, even games we’ve lost, I felt like we’ve won the battle of hard-hit balls. Really happy on the offensive side. I think defensively and pitching, we’ve got some work to do. I’d like our guys to throw more strikes and challenge more hitters. We’ve got a lot of guys with good stuff. I’d like them to take advantage of that, but we’ll get there.”
Post 285 is right back in action Saturday at H.T. Custer Park in Galesburg, hosting the newly revived Abingdon Legion baseball squad, which is back in action after a hiatus.
We will have game one of the doubleheader on WRAM AM 1330 and online at radiomonmouth.com. First pitch is scheduled for 11 AM, with pregame coverage hitting the air at 10:40.
Game two will be played following the conclusion of the first game.
