With the official start of spring right around the corner, warmer weather, and dry spells, construction on West Harlem Avenue in Monmouth is anticipated to begin again in April, informs Public Works Director Brayden Bledsoe:
“It is going to be weather dependent. When they go out there, they are going to have to rip off the existing road and doing that, they really don’t want to do that when we have a rainy season because that water will get into the new base they are putting down and that can cause issues down the road. So, it is going to depend on the weather. Optimistically, we may see something in April would be my hope,” says Bledsoe.
“In terms of the finishing of the project, the expectation is this summertime it will be completed. It will be a concrete road, new curb and gutter, sidewalk, and we are going all the way from Main Street to G Street with concrete, and then from G Street to the interstate it will be a nice asphalt two-lane,” Bledsoe adds.
Bledsoe states the West Harlem Avenue project had multiple funding sources, including the City’s Federal Allotment of Highway Funds and a $300,000 grant from the State of Illinois.
