Betty Jane DeWeese Moore, 90, formerly of Galesburg, died January 25, 2026, in Lawrenceville, Georgia, where she had moved to be near her son.

She was born December 4, 1935, in Galesburg, the daughter of Wesley C. and Ruth L. (Strandberg) Smith. She married Robert Eugene “Gene” DeWeese on July 15, 1953, in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on August 31, 1975. She later was married to Harold Nelson and Phillip R. Moore. They preceded her in death.

She is survived by a son, Wesley A. ( Lori) DeWeese of Lawrenceville; a grandson, Ryan DeWeese; and nieces and nephews. Her grandson, Jared DeWeese, died on March 14, 2026, her daughter, Rhonda DeWeese on December 23, 2020; and her daughter-in-law, Wendy DeWeese on May 7, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Norma J. Harvey.

Betty worked in retail in a variety of places. She also managed and operated the Smith and Allen Garage for a time. She had been a member of Fairview Center United Methodist Church. Betty was a weight recorder while in T.O.P.S.

Cremation was accorded. A visitation for Betty and her grandson, Jared, will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral and Cremation Services of Galesburg. Graveside services for Betty will be 2 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2026, in Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.h-p-w.com.
