Kathy Ann Thomas, 83, passed away Friday, April 17, 2026 in Sikeston, MO.

Born July 2, 1942, Kathy lived a quiet, steady life shaped by routine, responsibility, and the simple rhythms of each day. She preferred solitude and independence, finding comfort in order and consistency.

Kathy graduated from Media Weaver High School and later attended Western Illinois University. Kathy built a long career with the United States Postal Service where her reliability and dedication led to the position of Postmaster before her retirement.

Outside of work, Kathy spent much of her time in her garden, tending flowers with patience and attention. She found satisfaction in the seasons and the quiet work of growing things, watching each bloom come in its own time. Animals were also a constant in her life, especially horses and dogs, which she appreciated for their steadiness and presence. Her rescued miniature pinscher, Doc, was a constant and loyal companion.

Kathy also enjoyed simple comforts, especially her love of desserts and ice cream. Whether it was a bowl of ice cream or a container of snickerdoodle cookie dough, these small indulgences were something she consistently enjoyed throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dwain and Jessie McDonald Gipe; her first husband, Leroy Carnes; her second husband, James L. Thomas; her daughter in law, Lisa Carnes; her sister in law, Linda Gipe and her brother in law, Garl Wetters.

She is survived by her children, Kelvin L. Carnes, Jamie L. (Joshua) Nelson and Joseph S. (Lisa) Thomas; her grandchildren, Zachary, Cambree, Lilly, Delana, Delaney and Cooper; her siblings, Ronald Gipe, Donnie Gipe, Connie Wetters and Candy Gipe, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m., Friday, May 8, 2026, at the Warren County Memorial Park in Monmouth, Illinois, under the direction of Moore Memorial Homes of Roseville, IL, and the McMikle Funeral Home of Sikeston, MO. In lieu of flowers, plants and gift items, the family kindly requests memorial gifts be made to the Charleston MO City Pound, c/o McMikle Funeral Home, P.O. Box 393, Charleston, MO 63834, or Roseville Re-Engaged, c/o. Moore Memorial Homes, 230 West Penn Avenue, Roseville, IL, 61473.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Terry Parker and Sarah Moore for their care and assistance in preparing Kathy for her final resting place.
