Leonard Edgar Stockdale, 74, of Kirkwood, passed away at 5:46 a.m., Sunday, April 19, 2026 in Monmouth, Illinois. He was born April 27, 1951, in Macomb, Illinois, the son of Earl Dean and Dixie Lee (Rose) Stockdale. He was raised and educated in the Kirkwood and Yorkwood Schools.
He joined the United States Navy in May of 1969 and was stationed on the USS Midway until 1973.
He married Luanne Marie Harden on March 8, 1980, at the Raritan Baptist Church and she survives.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife; Luanne, sons; Bud (Heather) Stockdale, Sean (Laura) Stockdale and Ryan (Shawnda) Stockdale, grandchildren; Kayelee, Wyatt, Emily, Cameron, Hallie, Carrigan, Ethan and Samuel Stockdale; brother, Lewis Stockdale; sister, Terry Gittings; sisters-in-law, Linda Rebman and Lorna (Roger) Provine; brother-in-law, Dennie (Barb) Harden. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; mother & father-in-law and two nephews.
Leonard worked for Monmouth Materials, Roseville Ready Mix, the Box Factory and later for the BNSF Railroad for 20 years until his retirement in 2016. He was a member of the Kirkwood United Methodist Church and served on the Kirkwood Village Board for over 30 years. He also coached little league baseball for 17 years.
Leonard loved spending time with his family and attending sporting events for his grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling, especially to Branson.
