The United School District has hired a new Junior/Senior High School Principal following the resignation announcement from Mr. Brian Higbee. Superintendent Tom Hawkins shares the new hire comes to United from the Galesburg School District:
“We had six candidates and with a staff committee of junior and senior high teachers and also a board committee and myself, we were able to narrow it down to two. We were able to find one and we hired Mr. Michael Washabaugh, currently an Assistant Principal at Galesburg Junior/Senior High School. He comes with a tremendous background in school improvement, very student centered. July 1st is the first day he will be taking over.”
As part of 7th-grade orientation and locker nights for the 2026-2027 school year at United on Tuesday, August 11th, the district will host a “Meet the Principal” event in the Commons area at United Junior/Senior High School, allowing community members, parents, and students the opportunity to welcome Mr. Washabaugh into the district.
