S. Carl Ewing, 89, of Monmouth, IL, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at the Richard Owens Hospice Home, Peoria, IL.

He was born December 17, 1936 in Hodgenville, KY, the son of Sylvester and Ona (Johnson) Ewing. Carl was raised and educated in Galesburg and graduated from Galesburg High School in 1954.

Carl proudly served his country in the United States Army after being drafted in 1960, completing his service in 1962.

On October 27, 1956, he married the love of his life, Harriet Bennett, in Dubuque, Iowa. They shared many years together until her passing on October 1, 2018.

A dedicated businessman, Carl owned and operated Ewing Door Sales and Service in Peoria from 1974 until his retirement in 1996. Beyond his work, he had a deep love for music and was especially fond of playing the guitar. He shared this passion as a member of the Prairie Land Country Band.

Carl also found great joy in the simple pleasures of life, embracing his role as a “Gentleman Farmer” while tending to his small acreage. A man of strong faith, he was a founding member of Countryside Bible Church. Known for his warm spirit and sweet tooth, Carl had a particular fondness for cookies and pies, treats he enjoyed as much as the company of those around him.
