Technology continues to advance and modernize today’s farming practices. Drone use in farming has gained steady traction and interest, particularly in the application of agricultural inputs such as pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers.
Attendees can learn more at a field-day-style event, networking with fellow producers, researchers, and industry experts while exploring the key benefits and challenges of using spray drones in agriculture. Join University of Illinois Extension for an Agriculture Drone Education Day on June 5 in Georgetown. The event will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Georgetown Fairgrounds, located at 413 N. Seminary St.
“As the costs of farming continue to rise, it is important for growers to understand the best options for a crop cycle while protecting yields and bottom lines,” says Dennis Bowman, event host and digital agriculture specialist with Illinois Extension.
The day will feature educational presentations on drone features, hauling, safety, insurance, regulations, and state requirements. In addition, there will be equipment demonstrations and a networking session with industry professionals to help answer questions around adding drones and other agricultural technologies to a farming operation.
“The drone field day provides producers with the research, education, and network needed when considering or adopting drones into a farming operation,” says Bowman. “It helps farmers understand options for managing crops more effectively and sustainably.”
The event is open to all, and there is no cost or registration required to attend. Lunch will be provided. Certified Crop Adviser Continuing Education Units will be available at the end of the event for qualified individuals.
