A group representing the Knox County Area Partnership for Economic Development and the City of Galesburg recently took a trip to Washington D.C., to talk with legislators and lobby for infrastructure projects, reports President Ken Springer:

“We had two officers from KCAP’s organization, our Chairman Adam Vitale and our Secretary/Treasurer Dr. Andrew McGadney from Knox College and Public Works Director Aaron Gavin represented the City of Galesburg. That was our local team that met out in D.C.,” adds Springer.

“The first project was the South Street Underpass. We are seeking grant funds to do some planning and preliminary engineering to eventually replace that underpass. That is a project that has health safety impacts and is also one of the critical gateways both to Galesburg’s south side and also Knox College corridor. The second project is a well field development seeking funds through a congressional directed spending request in order to dig some additional water wells for the City of Galesburg to improve water quality. The third project would be a newly constructed fleet maintenance facility that we are also seeking congressional directed spending requests. That facility would allow the City to do more of its’ own maintenance on bigger safety vehicles,” Springer informs.

According to Springer, there are two pathways to get projects funded in Washington D.C.; going after congressional directed spending requests or federal grant programs.
