Marjorie L. Thomas, 94, of Smithshire, Illinois, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2026, at the Oak Lane Nursing and Rehab in Stronghurst, Illinois. She was born June 7, 1931, in Raritan, Illinois, the daughter of John and Ruby (Rosenbalm) Casteel. She was raised and educated in Smithshire & Media.
She married Edward Gene Thomas on June 7, 1948, in Smithshire and he preceded her in death.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children; Constance A. (David) Doty of Fort Madison, Iowa, Barbara (Gene) Simmons of Smithshire, Charles (Janet) Thomas of Monmouth, Illinois, Jeff (Cathy Betar) Thomas of Monmouth; son-in-law Tim Raymond; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Jackie Raymond; one grandson and her siblings.
Marjorie worked for the Southern and Media School Districts in the cafeteria for many years. She was a lifetime member of the Smithshire United Methodist Church. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 21, 2026, at the Smithshire United Methodist Church. A time of visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Ellison Cemetery, Smithshire, Illinois. Memorial contributions may be made to the Smithshire United Methodist Church and left in the care of the funeral home.
