Beverlye Lou Alecock, age 91, of Oquawka, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa.  She was born February 20, 1935 in Gladstone, Illinois, the daughter of Lucius and Catherine Colley Lox.  On July 2, 1955, she married Vern Edward Alecock in the Gladstone United Methodist Church.  He preceded her in death on September 23, 2024.

Beverlye was a graduste of G & O High School in Gladstone.  Besides being a dedicated mother and homemaker, she assisted her husband in the operation of the Alecock Excavating business.  She was a 4-H leader for over 20 years and a member of the Henderson County Extension.  She was a member of, and had served on the board of  the  Oquawka United Methodist Church.  For many years, she helped beautify Oquawka by taking care of the flowers along Schuyler Street.

The most important thing in Bev’s life, was her family.  More than anything, she was the most quintessential Midwest mother and grandmother, steady, loving, and always there in ways that mattered most.  She had a quiet strength and warmth that made people feel at home the moment they walked into her presence.  She didn’t try to be a light for others, she simply was.  And for so many of us, she truly was a light in our lives–one that won’t be forgotten.

Survivors include three children, Tina Thompson of Oquawka, Mike (Annie) Alecock of Smithshire, IL, Nancy (Bill) Bundy of Oquawka, nine grandchildren, Jason (Jenny) Thompson, Nicole (Trent) Steeg, Jarod (Aimee) Thompson, Eric Bundy, Heath (Lennon) Bundy, Hannah Alecock, Tyler (Kayla) Bundy, Emilie (Mark) Norzagaray, and Addie (Ryan) Leath, fifteen great grandchildren, Darion, Michaela, Ryley, Connor, Delaney, Jacob, Theron, Kieren, Ashlin, Karaline, Lila, Maizy, Judah, Gideon, and Ophelia, two sisters-in-law, Dixie Lox and Jane Spears, and many nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly, and remained especially close to throughout her life.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son-in-law, Stephen Thompson, seven brothers and three sisters.

A private family graveside service will be held in Walnut Grove Cemetery near Media, Illinois. A Celebration of Life, for family and friends, will be at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, June 20, 2026 at 207 North 4th Street in Oquawka. Banks & Beals Funeral Home of Stronghurst is assisting with arrangements.  Please visit Beverlye’s obituary at banksandbeals.com to leave a condolence.
