Lonnie L. Frieden, 84 of Monmouth, IL passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2026 in rural Cameron, IL while fishing at one of his favorite spots.

Lonnie was born August 14, 1941 in LaGrange, MO the son of Leslie and Thelma (Brose) Frieden.  He was raised and educated in LaGrange and moved to Monmouth when he was 9 years old.  He graduated from Monmouth High School in 1959.

Lonnie married Bette Chapin in Iowa on November 2, 1963.

He owned and operated Lonnie’s Texaco, Lonnie’s Amoco and later Lonnie’s Auto Sales all in Monmouth.

Lonnie was a member of the Monmouth Masonic Lodge, the Galesburg Bass Masters and member of the Warren County Board.  He loved fishing, hunting, tractor pulling and being around his family.

He is survived by his 3 children, Lisa Simpson, Amy Hughes and Matt (Andrea) Frieden; his grandchildren Shelby (Martin) Bobrowski, Bo Simpson, Courtney Simpson, Blake (Kendra) Hughes, Jordan Strom, Dillon (Brittany) Frieden, Lane Frieden, and Emmi Frieden; great grandchildren, Gracie Kramer, Ben Bobrowski, Lennon Hughes, Theo Hughes, Avery Frieden, Lakin Frieden and Brooks Frieden; his longtime partner, Janice Smith; his siblings, Phyllis Zang, Gerri King, Ted (Margaret) Frieden and Tom (Ann) Frieden; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents; son-in-law, Eddie Simpson and brother-in-law, Dick King. 

A gathering of family and friends will be from 2:00-4:00 pm, Friday, June 12, 2026 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL.  Cremation has been accorded. A private family interment will take place at a later date.  Memorials may be given to the Lonnie Frieden Memorial Fund and sent to the funeral home.
