Two ordinances related to the establishment of the proposed new east side Tax Increment Finance (TIF) District were discussed by Monmouth City Council. According to City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher, this TIF District would house a nine-acre single-family subdivision:
“This is the District that the City is proposing to be able to finance the extension of water, sewer, street, new drainage, and sidewalks into a nine-acre site off of North 12th Street for a new 23 lot single-family homes residential subdivision. The first ordinance was to establish the interested parties registry. This is a provision within the TIF legislation that any individual or entity that is interested can register their name and contact information so that they can be provided with copies of any meeting notices or any documents associated with the establishment of this new TIF District,” Steinbrecher says.
“The second ordinance was to establish the date of July 20th, 2026, for a Public Hearing on the proposed east side TIF District. Both of those ordinances were unanimously passed,” adds Steinbrecher.
In other Monmouth City Council business, the purchase of a new Mack Granite Truck for the Public Works Department for $250,000 was approved. Meanwhile, Street Department Foreman Ross Hall is celebrating an 11-year work anniversary, Ethan Landon with Street Maintenance is celebrating 3 years, and Wastewater Maintenance Operator Doug Schafer is celebrating 20 years.
