Stone-Hayes Center for Independent Living in Galesburg promotes independence for individuals with disabilities through a wide range of community support services. Communications Integration and Independent Living Advocate Sarah Nelson highlights those local resources:

“We help all people with all disabilities. We have advocacy, we have home services, so personal assistants, and we have independent living skills. We are a wealth of information and referral, so if you don’t know who to call, you can call us and we can direct you to the right place,” says Nelson.

“We do community reintegration, see people in the nursing homes, and if they don’t need to be there for a medical reason, we get them out and back into the community so they can thrive. Helping people stay in the community is a big one for us. We also have youth and family services,” Nelson adds.

Stone-Hayes will be celebrating their 30th anniversary this fall of serving the local community.
