Mrs. Carolyn J. Ashbaugh, 83, of Knoxville, Illinois, passed away peacefully at 1:58 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Illinois, with family by her side.

She was born on March 10, 1943, in Galesburg, Illinois, to Oscar T. and Alice A. (Krantz) Johnson. On February 24, 1968, she married Roger “Bud” Ashbaugh, in Knoxville. They shared more than 52 years of marriage before Bud preceded her in death on June 24, 2020.

Carolyn is lovingly survived by her son, Todd (Chris) Ashbaugh, of Knoxville; her daughter, Shelley (Jon) Ashbaugh-Nelson, of Knoxville; and her two granddaughters, Merisa and Bailey, who brought her endless joy. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her sister, Donna Johnson.

A 1961 graduate of Knoxville High School, Carolyn was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she faithfully served as church secretary for 22 years. She had a kind and generous heart that extended to both the people and cats she loved. She enjoyed reading Nicholas Sparks novels, watching Hallmark movies, keeping a close eye on the Weather Channel, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. She especially loved opening her home to family, where everyone always felt welcomed, well-fed, and deeply loved.

Above all, Carolyn’s greatest joy was her family, and she treasured every moment spent together. Her unwavering love, gentle spirit, and countless memories will forever remain in their hearts.

In accordance with Carolyn’s wishes, cremation will be accorded. A celebration of the lives of Carolyn and Bud will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church or the Knox County Humane Society. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be shared at www.h-p-w.com
