Jean Ann Steck, age 77 of Carman, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at her home. She was born May 26, 1949 in Canton, Illinois, the daughter of George Franklin and Ruby Jean Dannenberg Steck.
Jean was a graduate of Stronghurst High School, Southeastern Community College of West Burlington, IA, Northeast Missouri State of Kirksvillle, MO, and received her Masters of Science in Nursing from Clark University in Dubuque, IA. She worked as a nurse for Keokuk Hospital, Burlington Medical Center, and Genesis Medical Center in the Quad Cities. She also worked as a traveling nurse for the Henderson County Health Department in Gladstone, IL.
Jean was a very social “people person”. She was avid reader, painter and historian. She was a member of the Carman United Methodist Church, the Delta Zeta Sorority, and the P.E.O. of LaHarpe, IL.
Survivors include one sister, Peggy (Donald) Latherow of Carthage, IL, two brothers, Fred (Kerri) Steck and William (Brenda) Steck, both of Carman, one nephew, John (Peyton) Steck, four nieces, Megan (Mike) Moser, Maria (Brent) Blender, Catie (Nick) Mark, and Abby Steck, and six great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one nephew, Dannen Latherow.
Private family graveside services will be Tuesday, July 14, 2026 in the Carman Cemetery with Rev. Kendall Hetrick officiating. A Celebration of Jean’s Life will be announced at a later date.
