Jordan L. Salyers, 38, of Denver, Colorado, formerly of Roseville, Illinois, passed away on Monday July 13, 2026, leaving behind family and friends who loved him deeply and countless memories that will be treasured forever.
He was born February 21, 1988, in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of Derek Patterson and Shelly Salyers. Jordan was energetic, determined, and fearless from a young age. He dedicated much of his childhood and teenage years to gymnastics, where his remarkable talent and relentless work ethic earned him numerous honors. He proudly became a State Champion and National Champion, represented the USTA National Team and AAU National Team, and received the prestigious Nissan Griswold Award. Those who watched him compete knew his drive to succeed was matched only by his willingness to put in the work.
Following his graduation from high school, Jordan proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps,1/1 Alpha Company 1st Battalion 1st Marines, reaching the rank of Lance Corporal. He served two deployments: Operation Iraqi Freedom 2007-2008 and the 13th MEU in 2009.
He married Shannon Turner on December 23, 2008, and together they had two daughters; Katiana and Olivia. Though they were no longer married they remained close friends.
Jordan carried that same determination he had in gymnastics and the marines into many of his lifelong passions. This included; weightlifting, bodybuilding, cars, and riding motorcycles. He also competed in bodybuilding, continuing his pursuit of personal excellence and physical fitness.
Above all, Jordan loved his family. He is survived by his beloved daughters, Katiana and Olivia, of O’Fallon, Missouri; his former wife and the mother of his daughters, Shannon (Robert) Link; his brother, Rendon (Elizabeth) Patterson of Monmouth, Illinois; seven nieces and nephews; and his aunt, Kimberly Nair, of Monmouth, Illinois. He will also be deeply missed by many extended family members, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
Jordan was preceded in death by his mother, Shelly Thurman; his father, Derek Patterson; his maternal grandparents, Beverly and Ralph Salyers; and his paternal grandparents, Theresa and James Russell.
Jordan’s passion for health and fitness led him to work in a Chicago area gym and at a nutrition supplement store, where he enjoyed sharing his passion and knowledge, and encouraging others to become the best version of themselves. Jordan also worked in the restoration industry with Chicago Water & Fire Restoration and later with restoration companies in Georgia, Texas, and finally Colorado.
Jordan will be remembered for his strength, determination, adventurous spirit, and the love he had for his family and the things that brought him joy. Though his time on earth was far too short, the memories he created and the lives he touched will remain in the hearts of those who loved him forever.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Jordan’s life will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, August 1, 2026, at the Monmouth American Legion. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, August 2, 2026, at the Biggsville Cemetery, Biggsville, Illinois.
